You won't need your passport, you won't need a phrase book, the language of Koi is international and that's the theme for the 17th South East section BKKS 2003 Open Show.
Koi keepers from Europe (including England and Wales), Africa and Asia will be descending on Parkwood Hall School, Beechenlea Lane, Swanley, Kent to share the experience of a BKKS Section show. See Map 40 vats, and an average of 300+ Show Koi!
Exhibitors from across the South, from South Wales to Suffolk will be bringing their Koi to compete in the show as well as demonstrate their exquisite beauty for all to see.
This "International" theme will be very evident in the centre ring where 'two' teams of internationally renowned judges will adjudicate over exhibits. Two panels of Judges!
The first team, the BKKS team, a full team including trainees will officiate over the traditional BKKS show awards.
The second team, the International Judging Panel (IJP), will officiate over a number of special awards, some specially imported for this show.
For part of the judging the IJP will be shadowing the BKKS team to observe their highly respected training methods and expertise.

Louis van Reusel (the BKKS judge from Belgium)

Gary Pritchard BKKS (Representing the UK)
Toën Feyen (Representing the Nishikigoi Vereniging Nederland NVN)
Mike Harvey (Representing the South Africa Koi Keepers Society SAKKS)
Hayamasa Ikeda (from Japan representing the International ZNA). Additional Awards!
The IJP will then adjudicate over a number of additional awards some of which were specially created just for this show.
1. Emulating an award given at the All Japan ZNA shows to promote uncommon or rare varieties, we have introduced a "Selected Variety Award". Each year an individual variety will be chosen to be judged against its peers for the 'Best in show'.This year the chosen variety is "Yamabuki-ogon". A 2nd and 3rd will also be awarded in this section.
2. The most "Unique" koi will be awarded a trophy donated by the Nishikigoi Vereniging Nederland. 
3. The best "non Go-Sanke" will be awarded a trophy donated by the South African Koi Keepers Society. 
4. The best "Tategoi" will be awarded a trophy donated by the International ZNA 
5. The best "Doitsu" will be awarded a trophy donated by the Oregon Koi & Watergarden Society
The Dutch are coming !
However, this International presence is not just restricted to the centre ring. The NVN will be well represented by a coachload of Dutch Koi Keepers taking a well earned rest after staging their 11th Koi show on the 15-17th August. Unlike us, their shows are always well represented by international koi keepers. Look out for their stand in the South East tent. 
6,000th Fish Exhibit!
Away from the international theme and back to good old South East basics. There is the strong likelihood of an even more prestigious award. Should the numbers of fish in the show reach a 'certain' number then one lucky fish will have the accolade of being the 6000th fish shown at a South East Show. As it says in our show programme, "We've been doing it a long time".

Reptile & Amphibian Display The local branch of the British Reptile Association will be staging a display of these exotic pets and giving practical advice to would be hobbyists. The exhibits are changed daily. |
2003 SHOW BADGE  The latest in our series of show badges, depicting the Hikarimuji Show Class. This years badge was designed by Vincent Chiu, President of the Taiwanese ZNA, who managed to bring a touch of eastern mysticism to a formal western style badge. Opposing elements of gold and silver (Yamabuki and Purachina) are in equal balance on the badge denoting harmony and peace, Yin and Yang. There are now 7 to collect.. Click |
